The purpose of the website is to improve access to justice for the people of Kiribati. Access to justice is improved when people who need justice understand the law and processes involved in securing it. This website is intended to offer clear explanations of the structure of the court system, how the court system works, and how to make use of it. I hope some of the mystery of the legal system and the court process will be resolved through better understanding of what is involved in securing justice.
The website will also provide frequent updates on how well the judicial system is working. Updated documents about how to bring a case to court, the fees that are charged, practice directions and weekly lists of cases to be heard will be posted to the website. It may be that the judicial system is sometimes not working as well as it should, but transparency and accountability are important. The website is intended to be an accurate reflection of the health of the judicial system.
It is important that the people of Kiribati feel empowered to contribute, both to the website, and to improving the operation of the legal system. I welcome your comments and suggestions, both positive and critical, so that we may improve access to justice for all.
